MANILA/PHNOM PENH (Philippine Daily Inquirer/ANN): Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. arrived in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, on Sunday for his state visit scheduled to be in the city until Tuesday (Sept 9).

He was accompanied by First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos and the Philippine delegation aboard a plane that landed at Phnom Penh International Airport at 3:08pm local time.

The Marcoses were welcomed by Acting Head of State and Senate President Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen and his spouse, Samdech Kittiprittbindit Bun Rany Hun Sen, on behalf of His Majesty Preah Bat Samdech Preah Boromneath Norodom Sihamoni, King of Cambodia.

On Monday (September 8), his schedule includes a summit with Acting Head of State Hun Sen, a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, and a business roundtable with key business leaders from both countries.

The Philippines and Cambodia will sign agreements on combating transnational crime, higher education, and air services during the state visit, Foreign Affairs spokesperson Angelica Escalona said at a Palace briefing on Friday.

Marcos will also seek Cambodia’s support for the Philippines’ chairmanship of the Association of South-East Asian Nations (Asean) in 2026.

The visit comes at the invitation of the King of Cambodia. It reciprocates the Cambodian prime minister’s official visit to the Philippines in February 2025.
