Myanmar Parliament nominates Soe Thein as chair of new Anti-Corruption Commission

YANGON: A nomination list proposing the appointment of members, including Soe Thein, as Chair of the Anti-Corruption Commission was submitted at the Union Parliament session held Tuesday (April 7).

In order to form a new Anti-Corruption Commission and appoint its members, a total of nine nominees were selected.

Three members—Soe Thein, Kyaw Win Thein and Lieutenant General Win Zaw Moe—were chosen by the President-elect.

Three others—Dr. Tun Tun Oo, Lunn Baw and Kyaw Soe Nyunt—were selected by the Speaker of the House of Representatives (lower house).

The remaining three—Toe Ree, Tin Aung Win and Min Han Su Su—were chosen by the Speaker of the House of Nationalities (upper house).

The list of these nine nominees was presented to the Union Parliament by its presiding authority.

Among the nine nominees, Soe Thein, who was selected by the President-elect, has been proposed to serve as Chair of the Commission.

Discussions on the formation of the new Anti-Corruption Commission and the appointment of Soe Thein as Chair will take place at the Union Parliament session on April 9.

If there are objections, they will be heard; otherwise, the appointment will be approved.
