BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: Brunei's central bank has urged the public to be cautious of financial scams circulating on social media.

The scams involve videos and photos displaying stacks of Brunei banknotes, accompanied by claims that viewers can secure significant returns by joining live sessions online, the central bank said in a statement on Thursday (Sept 4).

These tactics are designed to mislead the public by creating a false impression of easy and guaranteed financial gains.

The central bank warned the public that such promises are not legitimate, stressing that scammers often misuse images and videos of Brunei currency to create a false sense of credibility and lure people into their schemes.

The central bank added that it continues to work closely with enforcement authorities to monitor any suspicious or unlicensed financial activities in Brunei. - Xinhua
