Massive joint operation in Brunei nets almost 200 offenders

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: The Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF) and nine other enforcement agencies conducted a joint operation involving 197 personnel in the capital on Wednesday (Sept 3), uncovering numerous violations.

The multi-agency operation included personnel from the Brunei-Muara Police District, the Human Trafficking Unit, the Royal Customs and Excise Department (RCED), the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), the Immigration and National Registration Department (INRD), the Internal Security Department, the Department of Labour, the Bandar Seri Begawan Municipal Department, the Department of Electrical Services (DES), and the Religious Enforcement Division (RED).

Led by Brunei-Muara Police District Acting Assistant Commanding Officer of the Operation Division DSP Khairul Hakimin Kamaludin, the operation targeted commercial buildings and apartments around Jalan McArthur, Jalan Sultan, Jalan Roberts and Jalan Berangan.

A roadblock was also set up, where 186 cars were inspected. Two drivers were issued compounds for not having a valid driving licence while four were warned.

During the raids, the RCED detained four individuals for possessing alcohol and cigarettes, while the NCB detained a male suspect under the Misuse of Drugs Act.

The INRD found two individuals who had committed offences under the Immigration Act, while the RED discovered a local Muslim man and woman suspected of committing khalwat (close proximity) in a rented room.

Meanwhile, the Department of Labour found several companies had violated the Employment Order, 2009. The Bandar Seri Begawan Municipal Department recorded three offences for abandoned vehicles, and the DES found a house using an unmonitored electric meter.

The joint operation is a proactive measure to strengthen teamwork, ensure compliance with the country’s laws, and curb criminal activities, particularly in the lead-up to the national-level Maulidur Rasul celebration. - Borneo Bulletin/ANN
