Malaysia's legendary rockers from Search and XPDC join hands for a mega concert in Kuching on Dec 13

KUALA LUMPUR/KUCHING: Without even needing to introduce these two legendary rock performers, the announcement made by the organisers, Seri Simfoni and Bintang Batu Event, regarding the Konsert Fenomena Samurai is already enough to make fans excited.

The first event featuring Search and XPDC, two groups said to be the most prominent Malaysian rockers in the scene over the last five decades, will also be held for the first time in Kuching, Sarawak, on Dec 13.

Holding a large-scale concert precisely inside the Kuching Stadium, which can accommodate more than 50,000 spectators, is also a bold attempt by the organisers.

For the record, this is also the first time members from Search and XPDC are playing together in a mega concert, and the organisers are confident that very fact is enough to make the pulses running high for music fans in Borneo.

"Of course, as organisers, we want the best. Also, top concerts are always held in a big way in KL. But time and again, top events in Sarawak are always very well supported. And we expect it will be more than support for the mega concert featuring legends of Malaysian music.

"Bringing Search and XPDC, two big names and local rock legends to Kuching is also due to high demand among fans. Many fans have approached in the past asking for such concerts featuring these groups. We decided to combine two of the very best in the country.

"We admit that the organising costs, including logistics and everything, may increase by two or three times, but we are optimistic that this concert will achieve the target. We expect a full house for the show," said Ikhram Atom from Seri Simfoni and Bintang Batu Events.

Both members of Search and XPDC said during a press conference in Kuala Lumpur this week said they they are extremely excited about the show. First, it is the first time they are on stage together for such a mega concert, and also super excited about the prospect of playing in front of a 50,000 crowd.

Both the group members also believe they will get a great response from fans and have promised them an unforgettable night of pure rock classics for fans.

"What we can add is that there will be lots of surprises for the fans. It has to be a show that will shake the Malaysian music scene. We are out to achieve that," said Din from Search at the press conference.

Lola, who represented XPDC, said he also received many song requests from fans that they had never performed before.

"Already, XPDC had received many requests from fans on social media to sing songs that we have never performed. And fan requests are our priority. What is certain is that the concert will create something different and yes, full of surprises," said Lola.

It will also be a very special concert that will feature many local talents and aspiring rockers. In fact, the party will begin as early as 2pm, and the group members said fans must get their money's worth for the show, and it will definitely showcase many young stars before the main show.

The concert will see Search and XPDC each perform for an hour and a half, and perform around 15 or 16 songs starting at 8pm.

There is also an early bird promotion for concert fans from Friday (Sept 5): RM250 (VIP), RM188 (MOSH), RM104 (FREE STANDING), RM160 (SILVER), RM90 (BRONZE)

After the promotion period, tickets will be sold at: RM359 (VIP), RM269 (MOSH), RM149 (FREE STANDING), RM229 (SILVER), RM129 (BRONZE).
