SINGAPORE: Eleven men who were allegedly involved in a Toa Payoh coffee shop brawl are facing charges of rioting with a deadly weapon.

The police in a statement on Monday (Aug 25) said the fight took place on Aug 24, and some of the suspects are believed to have been armed with weapons.

After the brawl, a 21-year-old victim sustained stab wounds on the arm, and another victim, aged 30, got a stab wound on the back. Both of them received outpatient treatment at a hospital.

The police arrested 13 suspects – 12 men and one woman – aged between 21 and 34.

A cleaver, believed to be a weapon used in the fight, was also seized.

The 22-year-old woman and a 30-year-old man will be helping the police with investigations.

The police were alerted to the incident at Block 10B Lorong 7 Toa Payoh at about 10am on Aug 24, and early investigations found that the fight took place at a nearby coffee shop.

The group allegedly attacked the two victims after a dispute.

The police identified the suspects with the aid of images from CCTV and police cameras before arresting them.

Four men, aged between 21 and 33, will be charged on Aug 26 with rioting armed with a deadly weapon.

Another seven men, aged between 23 and 34, will be charged the next day.

In video footage circulated on Telegram channel SG Secret Channel on Aug 24, more than 10 people can be seen at the coffee shop.

Three people can be seen lifting a chair and two tables before smashing them to the ground, while a man holding something in his hand can be seen hitting another man.

At least eight people then run across the road towards a Housing Board block before disappearing from view.

If found guilty, the suspects can face a jail term of up to 10 years and caning. - The Straits Times/ANN
