Brunei appoints new joint forces commander

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN (Xinhua): Brunei has appointed Colonel Pengiran Noor Rumaizi Pengiran Othman as the 8th joint forces commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces, local media reported on Saturday.

According to the local daily Borneo Bulletin, the takeover ceremony took place at the Royal Brunei Armed Forces Band Building in Bolkiah Garrison on Friday.

Pengiran Noor Rumaizi emphasized the need to prepare for and assess any forthcoming threats from both non-traditional and conventional sources, including those arising from technological advancements such as artificial intelligence, autonomous weapons, and electronic warfare, according to the Borneo Bulletin.

Pengiran Noor Rumaizi was enlisted into the Royal Brunei Armed Forces in 1996, according to Brunei's Ministry of Defence. - Xinhua
