Over 26 kilogrammes of heroin worth K1.32bil seized in Myanmar


YANGON: Authorities seized drugs worth K1.32 billion (US$628,571) in Kalay Township, according to the Anti-Narcotic Task Force.

Acting on a tip-off, a combined security team searched a 12-wheel vehicle heading to Kalay from Mandalay. The vehicle was driven by Naing Lin Aung (aka) Hmwe Ni and accompanied by Zaw Myo Naing (aka) Thar Nge at around 5 pm on 28 June. The team seized 26.4 kilogrammes of heroin, valued at K1.32 billion.

According to the investigation, police later arrested Nyein Chan Aung, who had arranged for the drugs to be transported from Mandalay to Kalay, in Pyigyidagun Township. Police have charged those arrested and are continuing to investigate others suspected of involvement in the case. - Eleven Media/ANN
