Eight inmates injured in artillery attack on Bhamo Prison


YANGON: According to a statement from the Ministry of Home Affairs, eight prisoners were wounded after Bhamo Prison in Kachin State was shelled with heavy weapons.

On June 26, 2025, at around 5 p.m., a combined force of the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) and People's Defence Force (PDF) launched an artillery attack on Bhamo Prison in Nawng Hko neighborhood, Bhamo Township. The shells hit Prisoner Dormitory No. (1), causing explosions and shrapnel injuries to eight inmates. Prison medical staff provided immediate treatment to the wounded.

Security forces are continuing necessary measures to identify, apprehend and take action against the attackers, as well as to restore peace and stability in the area. - Eleven Media/ANN
