Laos' inflation drops further to 8.3 per cent in May

VIENTIANE: Inflation in Laos dropped to 8.3 per cent in May, down from 11.1 per cent in April, according to the latest report from the Lao Statistics Bureau.

The highest price rise was recorded in housing, water, electricity and gas category, which stood at 21.6 per cent, according to the report on Tuesday (May 27).

This was followed by the medical care and medicines category at 19.8 per cent, the household goods category at 16.3 pe rcent, and the education category at 15.5 per cent.

The Lao government has intensified efforts to control inflation by adopting more restrictive monetary policies.

The Lao central bank is continuing its efforts to tackle pressing economic and financial challenges, aiming to bring inflation down to single digits by 2025. - Xinhua
