LUCENA CITY, (Philippines): A passenger jeepney carrying 15 picnickers from Antipolo City crashed into a tree on the roadside in Infanta, Quezon on Saturday (May 17) leaving two children injured.

The Quezon police in a report on Sunday (May 18) said a passenger jeepney driven by “Cesar” lost its brakes while negotiating a descending portion of a national road in Barangay Magsaysay around 9:30 a.m.

To prevent grave injuries among its 15 passengers, mostly children, including a six-month-old baby girl, the driver decided to crash the vehicle into a tree on the side of the road.

The passengers were taken to a local hospital for treatment.

Two of the passengers who were hurt were identified as “Precios,” 14, who had a fracture on her right neck and “Mark,” 13, who had a broken bone in his right arm.

The rest of the passengers, including the baby girl, were not hurt.

The occupants of the vehicle were on their way to a weekend outing in a beach resort in Infanta when the accident happened.

The police are conducting further investigations. - Philippine Daily Inquirer/ANN
