SINGAPORE: A multi-vehicle accident on the AYE resulted in 22 people being taken to hospital on the Thursday (April 17) morning.

In video footage of the accident on the Both Checkpoint Facebook page, at least two Causeway Link buses, which ferry travellers between Singapore and Johor Baru, a van and a lorry were involved in the accident.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said the accident took place on the AYE, towards the CTE before the PIE exit, at 7.55am.

Several motorcycles were also seen strewn on the roadside, and a handful of people were seated beside the crash site with the authorities nearby.

The SCDF said that nine people were taken to the National University Hospital, while the other 13 people were taken to Ng Teng Fong General Hospital.

The April 17 accident is the latest in a series of chain collisions on Singapore’s expressways. At least four other multi-vehicle accidents have occurred over the past four months.

On April 16, an accident involving a taxi, two cars and four trucks resulted in two people being taken to hospital.

On Jan 18, four people were taken to hospital after a chain collision involving eight cars and a van on the PIE, after the Stevens Road exit.

On Feb 21, eight people were injured in a pile-up involving 14 vehicles – 11 cars, two taxis and a motorcycle – also on the PIE.

On March 30, five people were taken to hospital following a five-vehicle collision on the same expressway.
