JAKARTA: (Bernama-Xinhua) Indonesia launched the Free Health Check (CKG) programme on Monday (Feb 10) as a national initiative to improve public health quality and reduce preventable diseases, reported Xinhua.

"The programme serves as a preventive measure against prevalent diseases in Indonesia.

"We expect this free health examination to cover all societal groups from infants to the elderly, helping people understand their health conditions," said Maria Endang Sumiwi, director-general of primary and community health at the Ministry of Health, in an official statement.

The programme provides various types of health examinations, ranging from hormone deficiency screening and congenital heart disease early detection, to nutrition, ear, eye, and blood pressure examinations.

For adults and the elderly, the focus of the examination will include the risk of stroke, heart disease and cancer, as well as mental and physical health.

As of Monday afternoon, some 17,000 people across the country have tried the programme, according to Minister of Health, Budi Gunadi Sadikin.

He noted that the essence of this programme is not to treat the sick, but to keep residents healthy with early detection. - Bernama-Xinhua
