Family of six missing after flash floods hits Indonesia's west Nusa Tenggara

JAKARTA (Bernama): A family of six has gone missing after flash floods struck Bima, West Nusa Tenggara, on Sunday evening, said Indonesia’s National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) on Monday (Feb 3).

BNPB spokesperson Abdul Muhari said local disaster management teams, along with the military, police, and the National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas), are focused on finding the missing individuals.

In a report Monday, the agency said heavy rains in the Nanga Wera village, Wera sub-district, also swept away seven houses near a river.

In a separate incident, tidal flooding in Parigi Moutong, Central Sulawesi, affected 100 families in Sausu Peore village on Saturday after a levee breach.

Meanwhile, heavy rains in North Luwu, South Sulawesi, triggered flooding in residential areas, farms and fish farming ponds along the Masamba and Baliase rivers, displacing 102 people and affecting 874 houses in Malangke, according to Abdul Muhari.

BNPB has urged the public to stay alert, prepare emergency supplies, and follow local authorities’ guidance, while local governments have been advised to evacuate residents living near hillsides or riverbanks if heavy rain persists for more than two hours. - Bernama
