Laos takes steps towards sustainable tourism development

VIENTIANE: The Lao government plans to integrate innovative technologies into tourism management and create new attractions to boost sustainable tourism development.

The Lao Ministry of Information, Culture, and Tourism will partner with the private sector to use technology as a model for expanding tourism activities in Lao capital Vientiane and will explore opportunities and business models for sustainable tourism development, Lao national TV reported on Friday (Jan 31).

The initiative will focus on expanding existing attractions, researching sustainable tourism practices, and improving infrastructure, including water, clean energy, and waste management systems. It will also enhance communication technologies to improve city services and urban safety.

In addition to upgrading the night market and creating pedestrian-friendly streets, the initiative will develop new attractions along the Mekong River and That Luang Lake.

Electric tour buses will be introduced to promote greener tourism. Mobile apps will also be developed to provide a seamless experience for tourists and service providers, aligning with international quality standards. - Xinhua
