Festive fireworks illuminate kinship across Taiwan Strait

XIAMEN/TAIPEI: A joint fireworks display lit up the night sky on Wednesday (Jan 29) in Xiamen, a coastal city on the Chinese mainland, and Kinmen, as both sides celebrated the Chinese New Year.

Starting at 8pm, nearly 50,000 fireworks were launched simultaneously from the beaches of Xiamen, Fujian province, and Kinmen, a small island located just off the mainland.
