Vietnam's aquatic exports driven by shrimp, pangasius in 2024

HANOI: Vietnam's aquatic exports reached US$10 billion in 2024, driven by shrimp and pangasius, Vietnam News Agency reported on Tuesday (Dec 24), citing the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers.

Shrimp and pangasius accounted for 60 per cent of the total revenues, the report said.

Shrimp's overseas shipments climbed 16.7 per cent to $4 billion this year, while pangasius export revenues increased 8.9 per cent to $2 billion compared to 2023.

Despite raw material shortages, tuna exports hit $1 billion up 18 per cent year on year.

Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Phung Duc Tien said Vietnamese seafood companies were increasingly showcasing their capabilities in advanced processing and high-quality production, laying a foundation for the sector to exceed $10 billion in 2025 toward the goal of $11 billion. - Xinhua
