BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: Poni Group marked its 15th anniversary with the launch of new services for the marine and maritime industry during the inaugural Brunei Darussalam Maritime Week (BDMW) 2024 at Bridex from Nov 19-21.
The launch coincided with a series of events showcasing the group’s expansion through its innovation hub, ASTARI.
The event began with Poni Marine’s Reef Ball Fabrication Workshop where participants gained hands-on experience in creating reef balls and fish habitats to support marine conservation efforts in Brunei.
The second day saw a series of expert-led talks delve into ground-breaking maritime technologies and practices. Topics included the role of artificial intelligence (AI), predictive modelling and satellite technology in reducing human impacts on oceans and rivers, presented by environmentalist scientist Chance Sullivan of ADS Environment.
Chief executive officer of IAMSAR Solutions Jean Houde discussed advancements in training and technology for maritime and civil aviation search and rescue operations. Director at EGB Engineering Dr Arnold Gad-Briggs explored renewable energy solutions and strategies for decarbonising the maritime industry.
The final day featured discussions on satellite mapping and AI applications for disaster management, led by President of Earth Sight International Brian Craddock.
His presentation showcased tools for flood forecasting, maritime border security, and emergency response management. Chief Growth Officer of Jejakin Sudono Salim introduced solutions for tracking and reducing carbon emissions in maritime operations using AI and satellite technology.
The day concluded with the Maritime Quest @ BRIDEX scavenger hunt, which brought together 40 teams, including students and maritime professionals.
