BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN (Borneo Bulletin/ANN): Brunei is currently experiencing the southwest monsoon, which will last until September, the Brunei Darussalam Meteorological Department (BDMD) has announced.
During this period, the weather is generally stable with fewer thunderstorms, while winds typically blow from the southwest.
As of 8am yesterday, Tropical Storm Gaemi was upgraded to Typhoon Gaemi, located at 17.4°N 125.2°E in the northeast Philippine Sea, about 1,600 kilometres from the Sultanate.
It is moving northwest and will not directly impact Brunei. However, Typhoon Gaemi is expected to indirectly affect Brunei’s weather, causing slightly windy conditions and potential gusty showers or thundershowers, especially at sea and coastal areas.
Wind gusts could reach up to 60 kilometres per hour during heavy showers. The sea condition is moderate, with wave heights of 1 to 1.5 metres.
BDMD also advised the public to take precautions due to the forecasted active weather, including the risk of fallen trees, landslides and flash floods in low-lying and flood-prone areas, especially near riverbanks during heavy rain and high tide. - Borneo Bulletin/ANN
