Indonesian armed forces await outcome of probe into TV journalist's death

JAKARTA: The Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) are waiting for the outcome of a police investigation into the recent death of a Tribrata TV journalist.

Its information centre head Major-General Nugraha Gumilar said the TNI cannot confirm the involvement of military personnel in the case but emphasised that if implicated, they would be subject to the military law.

"We’re awaiting the findings from the agencies involved. We hope that clarity will be achieved soon,” he said, as quoted by the Indonesian News Agency (Antara) on Wednesday (July 3).

According to Antara, Tribrata TV journalist Rico Sempurna Pasaribu (pic) was killed in a fire at his home in Kabanjahe, Karo district, North Sumatra, on June 27.

The fire, which also killed his wife, son and grandchild, is suspected to be connected to his news report on online gambling networks.

The Press Council on Tuesday urged National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo to set up an impartial team to investigate the incident. - Bernama
