Brunei firefighters celebrate 64 years of service

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: The Fire and Rescue Department celebrated its 64th anniversary with a parade at the parade ground of its headquarters on Saturday (May 4) with Minister of Home Affairs Dato Seri Setia Awang Ahmaddin Abdul Rahman as the guest of honour. The celebration also coincided with Internatioanl Firefighter’s Day which fell on May 4.

Following the parade, the minister inspected the parade line comprising 82 fire and rescue personnel led by Assistant Superintendent of Fire and Rescue Abdul Majid Abdul Wahab.

The event proceeded with a performance by the department’s brass band, followed by a showcase of a three-segment performance involving villagers who attended the fire prevention course joined by firefighters.

The event also saw the guest of honour presenting Life Saver 995 certificates to five penghulu and village heads who completed the course – from Kampong Merangking, Mendaram Longhouse, Rampayoh and Teraja, Kampong Semabat Longhouse, Kampong Bolkiah ‘A’ and Kampong Bolkiah ‘B’.

Village representatives also received basic firefighting equipment so that trained residents could become first responders during a fire before the firefighters arrive.

The guest of honour also interacted with the personnel involved in the road traffic accident performance and took a closer look at the equipment used during operations. – Borneo Bulletin/ANN
