BANGKOK (Bernama): Thailand hopes to attract Japanese investors and digital talent, especially in data centres and cloud services, to bolster its digital economy.

Thai Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin also endorsed the Energy and Industrial Dialogue and looks forward to partnering with Japan under the Asia Zero Emission Community (AZEC) framework to achieve ambitious climate goals.

To attract greater investment, Srettha also conveyed Thailand’s intention to apply for membership in the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).

"Thailand is committed to maintaining a favourable investment climate for Japanese investors. This commitment is demonstrated through a number of measures, including visa exemption for short-term business-related purposes.

"The Thai government has also called on the Japanese government to provide support to the Thai private sector.

"Thailand hopes to work together with Japan in promoting soft power, such as One Tambon, One Product (OTOP), which was inspired by Japan's One Village, One Product Movement (OVOP),” he said during a bilateral meeting with his Japanese counterpart Fumio Kishida during the ASEAN-Japan Commemorative Summit here Sunday.

Meanwhile, Government Spokesperson Chai Wacharonke said Kishida thanked the Thai Government for its approval on exemption of visa for short-term business-related purposes.

He said Kishida proposed an Energy and Industrial Dialogue framework to facilitate cooperative efforts between Thailand and Japan in energy and industrial sectors, with a focus on renewable energy and clean technology.

Chai said the two prime ministers also discussed the Myanmar situation in a constructive manner, including the humanitarian situation.

"Both premiers came to terms that all sides should end violence and seek to solve problems through peaceful dialogue,” he said. - Bernama
