BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN (Borneo Bulletin/ANN): Two Bruneians were fined RM1,800 each with a default sentence of two months’ imprisonment for drug abuse by the Magistrate’s Court in Miri, Sarawak in Malaysia on Thursday, The Borneo Post reported.
Magistrate Sandy Yvette Freddy sentenced both after they pleaded guilty to the charges, which were presented separately.
The charges were brought under Section 15 (1) (a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 (Act 234), a legal provision that is punishable under Section 15 (1) of the same Act.
Upon conviction, this section allows for penalties of a fine of up to MYR5,000, imprisonment for up to two years, or a combination of both.
According to the details of the case, the two were found to have abused amphetamine and 3,4-methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA), substances listed under the First Schedule of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 (Act 234).
These events occurred at the Miri District Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department office on June 18 at 8.35am and 8.45am.
