Philippines says H1 nickel ore output up 40% y/y

MANILA (Reuters): The Philippines' nickel ore output in the first half of the year totalled 16.87 million dry metric tonnes (dmt), up 40% versus the 12.01 million dmt produced in the same period last year, the Mines and Geosciences Bureau said on Monday (Sept 4).

The Southeast Asian nation, one of the major nickel ore suppliers to top metals consumer China, also said it expects its output of the key ingredient in producing stainless steel and electric vehicle batteries to rise further as four more mining projects are due to commence operations between 2023 and 2025.
