Numbers still high as Myanmar reports 1,693 new Covid-19 infections, 3 more deaths


YANGON, Feb. 28 (Xinhua): Myanmar reported 1,693 new coronavirus cases on Monday night (, bringing the tally in the country to 587,891, according to a release from the Ministry of Health.

A day earlier, Myanmar had recorded 1,959 confirmed cases.

The ministry said a total of 20,358 lab samples were tested in the past 24 hours and the daily positivity rate is 8.32 percent.

The total death toll in the country has risen to 19,368 after three more deaths from Covid-19 were reported in the past 24 hours, the release said.

According to the ministry's figures, another 1,379 patients have been discharged from hospitals on Monday, bringing the total number of recoveries to 534,774.

Myanmar had fully vaccinated over 20.91 million people against Covid-19 as of last weekend, the ministry said. - Xinhua
