BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN (Borneo Bulletin/Asia News Network): Continuous heavy showers from dawn on Wednesday (Jan 26) caused flash floods in several areas, leaving roads submerged under water. Several accidents were also reported as a result.
At Kiarong Complex, the road was impenetrable as people were beginning to leave their homes for work. Eyewitnesses reported of cars stuck in heavy rain.
Meanwhile, in Jalan Beribi, a four-wheeldrive vehicle skidded to the middle of the road and landed at the road divider. A shopping outlet basement car park in Mentiri, and areas in Jalan Ong Sum Ping and the Old Airport as well as interiors of restaurants were not spared from the flash floods.
The Brunei Darussalam Meteorological Department (BDMD) on Tuesday said the Sultanate is still in the Northeast Monsoon season, where active weather conditions typically occur in the afternoon and at night into the early morning.
Active weather conditions are forecast starting yesterday until tomorrow due to the active development of rain clouds over the Sultanate.
Occasional showers and thundershowers are expected with wind gust of up to 45 kph during or near heavy showers.
BDMD advised the public including motorists and mariners to take precautions to ensure safety.
