BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: Wawasan Brunei 2035 continues to serve as the nation’s main strategic framework in driving Brunei Darussalam’s socio-economic development towards achieving sustainable prosperity and the well-being of its people.
In line with this commitment, the Government of His Majesty Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam continues to review and update the Wawasan Brunei 2035 Framework in detail to ensure its continued relevance and effectiveness, especially in adapting to ongoing global market changes and current trends.
The Ruler emphasised this during the Special Session Meeting on Wawasan Brunei 2035 at Istana Nurul Iman.
Also in attendance was His Royal Highness Prince Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office.
Sultan Hassanal noted that follow-up actions from the First Supreme Council Meeting on Wawasan Brunei 2035 for the year 2025 have been implemented through Wawasan Brunei 2035 Coordination Meetings and discussions at Manpower, Social and Economic Working Committees.
The monarch emphasised that the KPIs within the Wawasan Brunei 2035 Framework must reflect national priorities that are relevant, strategic, and comprehensive, as these KPIs not only serve as the foundation for effective decision-making processes but also function as a guide in assessing national progress.
Sultan Hassanal said that coordination is a critical element in ensuring the effective implementation of a whole of government and whole of nation approach, including ensuring that KPIs are aligned as a unified system where contributions can be clearly traced towards achieving national aspirations.
In addition, the Ruler called upon stakeholders not to focus solely on their respective KPIs.
In this regard, leadership plays a decisive role in setting direction, driving implementation, and making decisions that contribute to the success of achieving Wawasan Brunei 2035.
Sultan Hassanal also expressed hope that the mechanisms for setting and reviewing KPIs are resilient, enabling periodic reassessment of targets and alignment with unforeseen changes.
In this context, the measure of success of the Wawasan Brunei 2035 Framework is not merely in meeting targets, but in ensuring that achievements are truly felt by the people in their daily lives, being the true measure of success.
In this context, the monarch emphasised the importance of unity and prioritising key development areas in addressing global uncertainties, which will continue to serve as the main drivers in realising the nation’s aspirations.
The Ruler affirmed that the Wawasan Brunei 2035 Framework remains the main strategic document in guiding national development towards the year 2035.
With effective implementation, supported by clear national KPIs and well-planned actions, Sultan Hassanal expressed confidence that the country is on the right track to achieving its set goals.
The monarch also expressed hope that all parties will continue to carry out their responsibilities with full commitment, integrity, and accountability.
