China’s Vice-Premier Sun Chunlan has urged local officials in Xian to take more decisive action to strengthen citywide coronavirus screenings, quarantine measures and Covid-19 treatment during her second inspection trip to the city in Shaanxi province on Wednesday as it battles China’s worst Covid-19 outbreak this year.

The outbreak shows no signs of easing after a further 161 cases were reported compared to 155 cases the day before. The northwestern city of 13 million people has been under lockdown for nine days.
