BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, June 4 (Birneo Bulletin): The second day of the 2021 Brunei Darussalam Islamic Capital Market Conference (BICAM) continued with talks on growing the Islamic finance sector on Thursday night (June 4).
During the second day of the conference, Autoriti Monetari Brunei Darussalam (AMBD) Deputy Managing Director Hajah Noorrafidah binti Sulaiman delivered a keynote presentation ‘Brunei Darussalam as an Inclusive Nation: A Value Proposition for Islamic
Capital Market.’
The keynote highlighted AMBD’s key achievements and ongoing initiatives in developing the domestic Islamic finance landscape, in particular the Islamic capital market sector, in line with Brunei Darussalam Financial Sector Blueprint (2016-2025).
She also presented a value proposition to further develop Islamic finance in the country which touched on exploring further Islamic finance initiatives for end-to-end halal economy in line with Maqasid al-Syariah; establishing innovation centre focussing on creating Islamic financial products and FinTech; introducing green and sustainable investment solutions; which will complement regional financial centres’ initiatives.
BICAM also featured six other topics centred around promoting resiliency, sustainability and inclusivity of the Islamic capital market, which includes ‘Creating a Climate of Inclusivity’ and ‘Economic Mobility through Islamic Capital Market’; ‘Breaking through the Halal Market’: ‘Opportunities and Challenges’; and ‘Viability of Islamic Social Finance as Instruments of Economic Growth’.
Speakers on the second day of the conference included Chief Marketing Officer of Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam (BIBD) Hajah Nurul Akmar Haji Mohd Jaafar; lecturer at Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) Dr Haji Mohd Hairul Azrin Haji Besar; founder and Managing Director of Jana Kapital Haji Aidil Bahrin Dato Seri Laila Jasa Haji Mohd Salleh; and Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer of Pergas Investment Holdings Singapore Dr Shamsiah Abdul Karim.
