Rescuers search China mine for workers trapped for 3 weeks


Workers set up equipment to rescue miners trapped since April 10 in a coal mine in Hutubi county, Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region. Eight miners had been rescued and were in good condition. Efforts to rescue the remaining 21 miners were still underway. - China Daily/ANN

Beijing, May 2, 2021 (AFP): Rescuers entered a mine in northwestern China's Xinjiang region Saturday (May 1) to search for 21 workers who have been trapped there since April 10, after flooding cut power underground and disrupted communications, state media reported.

The accident happened in Fengyuan coal mine in Hutubi County three weeks ago, as staff were upgrading facilities at the site, the official Xinhua news agency said.
