Brunei establishes diplomatic relations with Rwanda; no new Covid-19 cases for three days

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Dec 12 (Borneo Bulletin/ANN): The Brunei government and the government of the Republic of Rwanda have decided to establish diplomatic relations with effect from Dec 9, 2020.

According to a press release from Brunei's Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Thursday, the signing of the Joint Communique took place at the Permanent Mission of Brunei to the United Nations in New York.

The government of Brunei was represented by Hajah Noor Qamar, Permanent Representative of Brunei to the United Nations in New York whilst the government of the Republic of Rwanda was represented by Valentine Rugwabiza, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Rwanda to the United Nations in New York.

Meanwhile, Brunei on Saturday (Dec 12) marked three days without new Covid-19 cases and entered 219 days without local transmissions, keeping the national tally of confirmed cases at 152.

According to the Ministry of Health (MoH), two active cases are receiving treatment at the National Isolation Centre in the Tutong District.

The MoH has taken 111 SARS-CoV-2 virus samples over the past 24 hours, and carried out 78,966 tests since January.

A total of 676 individuals are undergoing mandatory self-isolation at government monitoring centres after arriving from abroad, while 9,153 have completed their stint since March.

Healthinfo.gov.bn revealed that there have been 117 cases in the Brunei-Muara District, 29 in the Belait District and six in the Tutong District.
