TOKYO: Voice actress Sumire Uesaka will not attend the Kyoto International Manga Anime Fair, also known as Kyomaf, for which she is a PR ambassador, according to the fair’s organising committee. The event will be held in Kyoto on Saturday (Sept 19) and Sunday (Sept 20).
Her agency said that it had received threats to kidnap and murder her.
Uesaka was scheduled to appear at the event on both days, including on stage, the organizing committee said on Wednesday (Sept 16).
The agency stated that it had received multiple threatening emails, including one that read, “We will kidnap [Uesaka] by Sept 27 with multiple people and kill [her].”
After consulting with the organising committee, the agency decided to withdraw her from the fair.
The fair itself will be held as scheduled at multiple venues including Kyoto International Exhibition Hall (Miyako Messe) in Sakyo Ward, Kyoto. - The Yomiuri Shimbun
