Zulfahmi and Azlan crash out at Aragon GP

PETALING JAYA: It was a bad day at the office for both the Malaysian riders at the Aragon Grand Prix in Alcaniz, Spain, on Sunday.

Moto3 rider Zulfahmi Khairuddin crashed out on lap 15 of the 20-lap race and suffered a fractured wrist.

The Red Bull KTM Ajo rider was in 12th spot when he lost control of his bike at Turn One. Pole sitter Alex Rins of Spain won in 40:04.214.

With the injury, Zulfahmi has jeopardised his chances of racing in the Malaysian Grand Prix at the Sepang International Circuit (SIC) from Oct 11-13. Last year, he put on an amazing performance to finish second.

SIC chief executive officer Datuk Razlan Razali said it was unfortunate for Zulfahmi to suffer the injury.

“The injury requires surgery. I hope he can recover in time to compete in his home Grand Prix,” added Razlan.

Azlan Shah Kamaruzaman of Honda Team Asia also crashed out in Moto2. He only managed to complete five laps. The race was won by pole sitter Nicolas Terol of Spain in 40:15.232.

“Perhaps I was too hasty, overtaking when I shouldn’t have. It was a disappointing result,” said Azlan.
