Hakim takes setback in stride, seeks better ride in Czech Republic

PETALING JAYA: Setbacks are an inevitable part of motorsport, and rider Hakim Danish Ramly is taking it on the chin after his Hungarian Grand Prix race ended early on Sunday.

Hakim’s first outing at the Balaton Park Circuit in Balatonfokajar proved tricky after he crashed in the opening lap after being hit by South African rider Ruche Moodley.

The 18-year-old, however, is determined to put the disappointment behind him and return stronger in the next round of the Moto3 World Championship.

“I’m disappointed for not completing the race after the incident with another rider at turn five,” said Hakim, who started 19th on the grid after a rough qualifying session.

“However, that is part of racing. Sometimes unexpected things happen, and we have to accept it.”

On the next race at Czech Republic Grand Prix from June 19-21, he said: “There are still many areas I need to improve on, both in terms of my riding and track understanding.

“I’m looking forward to getting back on track in Czech Republic and hope to deliver a stronger performance.”

Meanwhile, Sepang International Circuit (SIC) Racing team manager Zulfahmi Khairuddin was happy Hakim escaped without any injuries.

“I had expected it to be tough. Balaton Park is a highly technical circuit that demands a great deal of confidence and experience from the riders,” said Zulfahmi.

“Hakim worked hard to adapt and improve but never quite found the level of comfort and rhythm needed to perform at his best around the circuit.

“The most important thing is that Hakim escaped without any injuries and the incident would not affect his determination.”

Spanish riders dominated the podium in Hungary as Maximo Quiles extended his championship lead to 170 points with a win, while David Almansa and Alvaro Carpe came in second and third, respectively.

Hakim currently has 58 points and is in 10th.
