KUALA LUMPUR: Shop owners around the Petaling Street have been advised to close their shop on Malaysia Day to avoid trouble.

A vendor, Lu said the shop owners association here had asked them to close for the day.

"Some time last week we were told that we need to all close our shops.

"We were told that the association will not be accountable for any trouble that might arise or any damage caused.

"As far as I know only two shops remain open as even my wife did not want me to open our shop today," he said when met in Petaling Street on Wednesday morning.

He added that he had come down to 'see the situation' and that he will be resuming business on Thursday.

Another shop owner who did not want to be named who kept his shop open said that he was just going about his business.
