Dr Mahathir at his book launch

PUTRAJAYA: Tan Sri Pandikar Amin Mulia talked about his unhappiness with the Government and how he was treated as Parliament Speaker during a meeting with Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, the latter said.

Dr Mahathir said he was merely repeating what Pandikar Amin had said to him about wanting to resign over his unhappiness at the way Parliament was treating him as the Speaker.

"He also told me about his unhappiness with Datuk Seri Najib (Tun Razak) and that he wanted to step down.

"He asked me what he should do and I said if you want to resign, resign.

"Now he is saying as if I have lied," Dr Mahathir told reporters at the launching of his book on Selected Letters to World Leaders here Monday.

The former prime minister said it was Pandikar Amin who came to see him and related his feelings.

Earlier when answering a query from the audience, Dr Mahthir reportedly said Pandikar Amin complained about the way his room in Parliament was furnished.

He said Pandikar Amin told him that the furnishing "is so shabby" and the Speaker should not be treated that way.

Dr Mahathir said Pandikar Amin could have decided to stay on after the room was refurnished.
