GEORGE TOWN: Seri Delima assemblyman R.S.N. Rayer showed up in a Sessions Court here expecting to be charged with sedition but was instead informed that the indictment had been held back.
The DAP assemblyman arrived at the court complex here at about 9am yesterday accompanied by lawyers Gobind Singh Deo, Ramkarpal Singh and S. Raveentharan.
Some Pakatan Rakyat leaders and supporters greeted them upon their arrival. Police Light Strike Force personnel were present to maintain order.
Rayer, 42, was expected to be charged under Section 4(1)(b) of the Sedition Act yesterday but his lawyers were told by Penang prosecution unit head Datuk Razali Che Ani that the indictment was held back until further notice.
Gobind said they were informed by Razali that the Attorney-General’s Chambers had given instructions to hold back the charge against Rayer until further notice.
“We do not know what this means, whether they will proceed (with the charge) later or whether they are not going to proceed with it altogether, which is something we are going to write to the A-G’s chambers to find out,” Gobind said.
In his capacity as Puchong MP, Gobind urged the A-G to ensure that Rayer was not charged with sedition.
Rayer, who is a lawyer, declined to comment.
