PETALING JAYA: Users of the new-generation MyKad can still use their MyDigital ID certificates as usual.
In an announcement today (Sept 18), MyDigital ID said the new MyKad would not affect the functionality or use of its platform.
“Starting Oct 1, MyDigital ID registration with the new MyKad can be performed online through the available process,” it said.
For new registrations, users can sign up at MyDigital ID kiosks located at selected locations nationwide. Users can search for a nearby kiosk through the MyDigital ID website.
Alternatively, users can pre-register for MyDigital ID at the National Registration Department (JPN) when applying for the new MyKad.
“Users need to inform the officers at JPN if they want to pre-register for MyDigital ID,” it said.
Once the pre-registration is completed, users can complete their MyDigital ID registration online using their smartphones without having to scan their MyKad, as required under the usual eKYC process.
MyDigital ID is the national digital identity platform, designed to provide secure online identity verification and single sign-on access to government and private-sector services.
According to JPN, the new MyKad, launched on Sept 17, is made of polycarbonate for greater durability and features laser engraving for personal details and photographs.
Its smart chip also supports faster biometric processing and multiple applications, including banking and public health services.
