PETALING JAYA: The new-generation national identity card (MyKad), featuring a refreshed design and enhanced security features, has been officially unveiled, with public applications opening today.
The National Registration Department (JPN) stated that every element of the new card is reinforced with anti-tampering technology.
Highlights of the update include a dynamic security hologram and transparent window on the front, alongside an enforcement QR code and dual-interface chip on the back, according to a JPN Facebook post yesterday.
“Each element is part of the upgrade that makes the new-generation MyKad more modern and reinforced with state-of-the-art security,” the department noted.
On Tuesday, Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail urged the public not to rush to JPN offices to replace their existing cards, as the current MyKad remains fully valid.
He explained that the new version introduces around 50 additional security features being rolled out in phases.
Early this month the department said that the transition from the existing MyKad structure to the new-generation MyKad had caused temporary disruptions to its printing services.
The printing disruption lasted from Sept 1 to 7.
In light of this, the department had advised members of the public who do not urgently need to replace or renew their MyKad to postpone such transactions.
