Netflix has raised the monthly subscription prices for its streaming service in Malaysia.
The new pricing reflected on its website shows the Mobile plan is now RM19.90 (previously RM18.90), while Basic is now RM33.90 (previously RM29.90).
Standard has also increased to RM55.90 (previously RM49.90), while Premium is now RM69.90 (previously RM62.90).
Standard subscribers can add one extra member, while Premium subscribers can add up to two, with each extra member costing RM14.90/monthly.
The feature, introduced in 2023 to allow account holders to add users from different households, was initially priced at RM13/monthly.
When the Mobile plan was introduced in Malaysia in 2019, it was priced at RM17/monthly.
In a chat with a Netflix virtual agent, it stated that the price changes apply to all subscribers once announced.
Subscribers will be notified by email one month before their billing date when a price change takes effect.
However, the agent could not provide a specific timeline for when the new pricing would be applied to existing subscribers.
Option to pause
Netflix launched in Malaysia in 2016, with its Basic plan initially priced at RM33/monthly. In 2023, the company revised the Basic plan price to RM28/monthly.
Then in 2024, it announced a price hike, adjusting the Basic plan price to RM29.90/monthly.
Subscribers can cancel their membership at any time or pause it for up to three months, during which no billing will take place.
Billing will automatically resume when the pause period ends.
However, the pause feature is not available to Basic plan subscribers.
