REDMOND: Nintendo on Wednesday announced a new entry in its long-running space combat franchise, revealing that Star Fox will launch on June 25 for the Nintendo Switch 2 system, bringing Fox McCloud and his crew back into action with a modernised overhaul of the classic sci-fi adventure.

The announcement came during a Nintendo Direct presentation, where the company showcased a cinematic reimagining of the game inspired by Star Fox 64, featuring updated visuals, fully voiced cutscenes and a revamped orchestral score designed to take advantage of newer hardware capabilities.

Players will once again step into the cockpit of the Arwing alongside Fox McCloud as he leads the Star Fox team against the forces of the villainous Andross, travelling across a reworked Lylat System that now includes expanded planetary detail and alternate mission paths that change depending on player performance.

Nintendo said the new title will include multiple gameplay modes, including a story-driven campaign, re-playable challenge missions and a new 4-vs-4 multiplayer battle mode that allows players to compete online or locally in team-based dogfights across several maps.
