Mega Evolution is coming back in a big way in Pokémon Go. After the release of new forms of Victreebel, Malamar and Dragonite at the Pokémon Go Tour, developers announced that the release of Mega Mewtwo X and Mega Mewtwo Y is coming to Pokémon Go Fest.
Those attending the in-person festivities in Chicago, Copenhagen and Tokyo will have the first chances at it. The Genetic Pokémon will have its Level 1 unlocked at these events through a branching Timed Research and massive in-person Raid Battle toward the end of the event. The events will also feature Mega Mewtwo Raids that allow more than 1,000 trainers. Be warned though: Previous attempts at Go Tour did not end well.
Niantic is also making changes to the Mega System itself. Excess Mega Energy can now be used to increase a Mega Levels of their final form, reducing the need for a cooldown. Those Pokémon with multiple Mega Evolutions will now have their progression tracked individually and progress will be carried to both forms.
The other major announcement is that Pokémon Go Fest Global, which happens July 11 and 12, will be free to all players who log in. The celebration isn’t limited to just spawns. It includes access to Special Research, increased Shiny Pokémon encounter rates and event-specific bonuses. No ticket required.
That’s nice, but there could likely be other add-ons offered, as in other big events. – Bay Area News Group/TNS
