NEW YORK: The PlayStation Network suffered a widespread outage over the weekend, leaving many players unable to access games and online features. The issue affected users around the world and prevented millions of users from playing games they paid for.

The outage began Saturday, March 21 when players started reporting problems signing in and launching games on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 consoles. Sony acknowledged the service disruption and said engineers were working to restore access.

Many users said they could not connect to online multiplayer games or use social features. Some also reported trouble accessing apps or downloading content. The problems spread quickly, with thousands of reports showing up on outage tracking websites.

The outage lasted for several hours before services began to return. Sony’s service status page later showed that systems were back online.

For some players, the problems continued into the next day. Games that require an internet connection were especially affected during the disruption.

Sony did not give a clear reason for the outage. The company also did not say how many people were affected. In past outages, Sony has often said only that it was dealing with a technical issue.

The outage once again raised concerns about how much modern gaming depends on online services. Many popular games require a constant internet connection, even for basic features. When the network goes down, players can lose access to content they already paid for. – cleveland.com./TNS
