Maybank announced that it will start limiting access to websites and apps for users on unsupported browsers and mobile operating systems (OS).
"As part of our continuous commitment to providing you with a safe and seamless online banking experience, please be informed that we will be progressively limiting access to Maybank2u web, the MAE app, M2U Biz (web and app), and M2E (web and app) on unsupported browsers and mobile operating systems (OS)," the bank said in a Nov 7 announcement on its website.
The company said the updates will be implemented in phases.
For Maybank2u web, M2U Biz web and M2E web; access will be discontinued for users on older browser versions, including:
- Opera Version 116 and below
- Microsoft Edge (Windows) Version 133 and below
- Chrome (Windows) Version 133 and below
- Mozilla Firefox (Windows) Version 134 and below
- Safari (Apple) Version 17 and below
Users are advised to perform updates on their browser through the Settings or Help menu.
For MAE app, M2U Biz app and M2E app, the bank said access will be discontinued on devices running on Android 9, Android 10, iOS 14 and iOS 15.
For users with devices on newer but unsupported OS versions – such as Android 11 and 12; and iOS 16 and 17 – they will continue to have access to MAE. However, for added security, the company said a lower daily transaction limit may apply.
"To continue enjoying full access and your current transaction limits, please update your device’s OS via ‘Settings’ to the latest supported versions (Android 13/iOS 18 or above)," it added.
The company said it is implementing the measure to protect users from risks such as data breaches, malware and unauthorised access because older versions no longer receive security updates.
For users upgrading to new devices, Maybank said they are required to activate Secure2u again through the ATM (for MAE app users) or through the app for M2U Biz and M2E users. A minimum 12-hour cooling period will apply.
