LOS ANGELES: With iOS and iPadOS 26, Apple has introduced transparent buttons as part of its new "Liquid Glass" design. However, some users have been finding the new look confusing, are struggling to identify the icons or just don't like the new effects.
While Liquid Glass can't be completely disabled, the transparency can at least be reduced. Apple has included a comprehensive set of accessibility tools in iOS, iPadOS, and macOS for users with visual impairments. These settings can be accessed via the Settings menu.
To adjust the transparency:
- Go to Settings.
- Select Accessibility.
- Tap on Display & Text Size.
- Scroll down and enable Reduce Transparency.
This setting reduces transparency and blur effects, increasing the contrast between buttons and the background, making them easier to identify in many cases.
Another helpful option is located directly below the "Reduce Transparency" toggle: Increase Contrast. Enabling this feature adds a thin, visible outline around each button, further improving visibility.
Mac users who wish to reduce transparency can also navigate to Settings and then to Accessibility. Under the Display section, they will find the options to Reduce Transparency and Increase Contrast.
These adjustments also make surfaces and backgrounds more distinct. Additionally, for those using macOS in dark mode, menus will appear in a rich black instead of dark grey, enhancing readability. – dpa
