BERLIN: Visitors to "Threads.net" are now being automatically redirected to "Threads.com," the new official website of Meta's answer to Twitter.
The domain change will likely go unnoticed by many users, but there are five new features that come with this change that should be of interest to anyone using the web version of Threads on desktop browsers.
- The single-column layout has been replaced, showing personal feeds at the top in the same order as on smartphones.
- Liked and saved posts can now be accessed directly through the main menu icon.
- A new column icon on the right sidebar allows users to add custom columns, such as feeds, frequently used searches, or frequently visited profiles, all of which can be rearranged via drag and drop for a personalised layout.
- Shared posts can now be copied directly as images, eliminating the need for screenshots.
- A new "+" button at the bottom right opens a pop-up composer window that moves with the user while scrolling, making it easier to write and post directly.
Threads, alongside competitors like Bluesky and Mastodon, is one of the leading alternatives to Elon Musk's messaging service X (formerly Twitter).
Unlike X, these three platforms are not entirely isolated from one another. With some limitations, users can connect certain features between services, such as linking Mastodon with Threads and Bluesky. – dpa/Tribune News Service
