Researchers in South Korea have developed an innovative lithium-metal battery that automatically shuts down in the event of overheating, reducing the risk of fire in electric vehicles.

Based at the Daegu Gyeongbuk Institute of Science and Technology (DGIST) in South Korea, these researchers have developed a battery incorporating a triple-layer solid polymer electrolyte. This design prevents lithium growth, which can lead to short-circuits and fires.
