Coming soon: Smartphones with several days’ battery life

The next generation of smartphones promises to take battery life to new levels, with models that can even be used for several days without needing to be recharged.

Currently, the most long-lasting smartphones on the market boast a battery life of just over 20 hours without intensive use, which means they can be used without charging for almost two days. Soon, charging up every day could be a thing of the past, as battery capacity increases.

A leak published on the Chinese social network Weibo, and reported by the Notebookcheck website, suggests that Realme’s future flagship will come with a record battery capacity. The Chinese manufacturer would thus be the very first to launch a handset equipped with an 8,000 mAh battery, guaranteeing two or three days’ battery life for typical use.

Currently, the GT 7 Pro is one of the longest-lasting devices on the market, with a 6,500 mAh Titan battery that can be recharged in just 37 minutes, thanks to its ultra-fast 120 W SuperVOOC solution. Its successor, the GT 8 Pro, could have a battery capacity of up to 8,000 mAh, in which case you’d have to wait almost 70 minutes to fully recharge it.

Oppo and iQOO could soon follow Realme’s lead, each offering the promise of not having to charge up your smartphone, systematically, at least once a day. However, such devices would be high-end models reserved for the Chinese market.

Users in Europe or the United States won’t be able to benefit from this kind of battery life for some time yet. In fact, the world’s two leading smartphone vendors, Apple and Samsung, are still a long way from reaching such levels. – AFP Relaxnews
