Global IT outage causing long wait for check-in, luggage drop at KLIA2

PETALING JAYA: Users on social media are sharing photos of long queues at check-in counters in KLIA2 due to the Microsoft-CrowdStrike global outage.

Tour leader Syahrul Azlan, who shared videos of travellers waiting in long lines, said he arrived at KLIA2 at around 1pm today, only to receive an announcement about system disruptions.

“Those who have to drop bags and print boarding passes at the check-in counter may have to wait longer. Some friends in my travelling group waited for at least one and a half hours,” he said when contacted by LifestyleTech.

An X (formerly Twitter) user who goes by the handle @muhazsab claimed that he has been waiting for two hours to drop off his luggage in a post at 3pm.

According to @najiahrun on X, the airline kiosks are not functioning, and airline crew members have to issue boarding passes manually.

AirAsia announced that travellers may experience slower check-ins and longer queues due to a global IT issue impacting its core reservation and check-in systems.

KLIA Ekspres on X (formerly Twitter) has reminded customers to purchase tickets from the counter as tickets currently cannot be purchased through the app, website or ewallets due to a technical glitch.

Meanwhile, Malaysia Airports Holding Bhd said its network of airports in Malaysia remains unaffected by the global Microsoft outage.

"However, some of our airline partners are experiencing disruptions due to this issue," it said in a statement on Facebook.
