BERLIN: Now playable in early-access mode, Pioneers of Pagonia is a PC game from the creators of the long-running city-building games The Settlers. Fans of that series will find much that is familiar here.
Players have to lead a community in a world made of up of many islands. You have to quickly build a complex production chain and collect all the necessary resources.
'Pioneers of Pagonia' is not entirely finished, but already playable. There are still bugs here and there and there's no story mode yet.
New buildings in the village need wood from the sawmill, people eat vegetables from the farms, and armourers need iron from the mine.
Although military buildings are also being set up, the expansion continues peacefully. There is no fighting against other peoples and trade with them is friendly.

However, there is no shortage of enemies in the wide game world, because some thieves and werewolves pose a danger and you will need to fend them off with your own soldiers.
Signs that this game is not completely finished are only partially noticeable. There are still bugs here and there, the list of buildings is not as long as it could be, and there’s no story mode.
Unlike in many other games of this genre, in 'Pioneers of Pagonia' it's all about peaceful trade without war.
Even so, the game already has a lot of depth and the developers have promised some updates for 2024. Pioneers of Pagonia has a classic Settlers feeling. Although there is more trading than fighting, this approach is certainly exciting.
Regardless of whether you're a newbie or a Settlers pro, this game will offer plenty of fun. The game is available for PCs via Steam and costs around €30/US$30 (RM72 in Malaysia). – dpa
